Youth fashion looks during Third Wave feminism

Punk deliberately set out to shock. Women mixed androgenous item with hypersexualize details such as tee shirts slashed with open slashes, fishnet tights and facial piercings - confidently showing off areas of the body. Punk was a new way for women to express themelves. Women sexualized themselves to protest against the double standard.

Androgenous baggy layered styles were part of Grunge fashion in the 1990s. The popularization of super models, discrimination of women in the work place due to appearance, and overall expectations of women caused push back agains American culture. Like Punk, Grunge women with feminist views challenged societal ideals of femininity.
