Maternity Outfit

Very different from the stretch maternity garments worn today, adjustable ties at the center-front of the skirt allow room for the growing abdomen during pregnancy. In 1952, Lucille Ball became the first woman to show off her real-life pregnancy on the hit TV show I Love Lucy. This was the beginning of a decade where pregnancy was displayed and celebrated in social situations, although working women were often discriminated against.
