Tintype of Two Girls

Description
This photograph was taken in 1890. According to PhotoTree.com, tintypes showing people in posed settings were popular throughout the 1890s. The two girls pictured are wearing mid-calf length dresses, which signifies their youth. High necklines, bishop sleeves, and bodices gathered above the waist characterize late Victorian girls’ fashion. The colors of the fabrics appear dark, another commonality of the period. The tartan plaid worn by the older girl had been popular for children’s clothing since the 1850s when Queen Victoria dressed her own children in Scottish kilts.
