Tintype of Two Young Men

ca. 1870-1880

Description

This image portrays two young men sitting for their portrait, both with cigars in their mouths. The young man on the right side of the image is wearing a matching three-piece suit consisting of a fitted frock coat with extra-wide lapels and a wide necktie with squared overlapped ends, which was frequently seen in the 1870s. The other man is wearing a three-piece suit consisting of a sack jacket with only the top button done to expose the double-breasted waistcoat and watch chain. His jacket has narrow lapels and his pinstriped trousers are mismatched to his top suit pieces, a style popular in the 1880s among youth.
