Format
42 inches long; 16 inch radius (106.7 cm; 40.7 cm)
Description
Baby buggy parasol (L-shape) with one break at the top has eight metal wire ribs that support a white cotton canopy and a ruffled net overlay; stick is a steel rod which would lock into the baby buggy at an adjustable height and angle at the top to keep sun off the baby.
Versions of this style have been around since the 1840s, but the L-shape style is only shown in ads at the end of the nineteenth century.
In the 1908 Sears, Roebuck & Co. catalogue, parasols and lace covers could be purchased separately for what were called "Baby Carriages and Go-Carts."
