Description
This single-breasted vest, of a black satin weave, has a shawl collar, and six buttons covered with the same fabric as the vest front. The black fabric has a floral design embossed along the collar and front where it could be seen. Two pockets are placed one on each side at the waist, while a third is on the proper left breast, lying slightly diagonally to the armscye.
The lining is a twill fabric, probably cotton. The back is a tan twill weave, possibly once a polished, cotton. A single black metal buckle is sewn to the adjustment belt at the back.
The waistcoat appears to be entirely hand sewn, with very fine topstitching along all the edges. Padding ahs been added to the front sections.
The initials M.A.W. with some indescipherable words are written by hand in ink inside the proper left front shoulder. At this time we don't know who these initials refer to.
