Vignette 1
Pieces of this dress fabric can be found in the unfinished quilt tops and the swatch books. The swatches likely came from the sleeves of the dress as there were no sleeves at the time of donation to URI. A previous graduate student did research to reconstruct the sleeves seen here. The dress was meticulously sewn by hand from a printed cotton fabric. The silhouette of this garment is typical for the time period, with sloped shoulders and full skirt. Dark brown fabric was ideal for an afternoon dress.
