Emily Hasell Crouch (1836-1926) was an art teacher and an accomplished watercolorist. The Cushman Collection includes a group of watercolors, most of which were painted by Emily. Franklin and his sister Emily Cushman also painted and their works are represented in the collection as well.

Emily Crouch, whose work is signed, favored harbor and pastoral scenes as well as studies of flowers and vegetables. Many of her watercolors were painted in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Women and children were also her subjects, and she sometimes painted them in period dress. These watercolors are examples of Emily's work.
