Quilt Conservation and Exhibition Preparation

The quilt tops underwent condition surveys. Graduate students in TMD 548 proposed and completed the conservation treatments and developed the proper display methods for each artifact. Quilt top 1 was fully backed and installed using rare earth magnets. These are a new method to mount textiles without having to sew a support to a textile. The back of quilt top 2 was stabilized with a net overlay and displayed on a custom angled mount. This allowed visitors to see a variety of the papers used to create the hexagon of the mosaic quilt.
